Rwanda
Clinical immersion in Rwanda
An immersion in Rwanda? Although the country’s dark past may frighten some, Rwanda is a charming country to discover!
The scenery is enchanting: a thousand hills surround the landscape and there is vegetation everywhere. Rwandans are caring and respectful people and they will be happy to welcome you. Furthermore, Rwanda is a safe and stable country, which makes it a dream destination for students wishing to discover an East African country!
Everyday life
Students will be accommodated with host families or in an apartment / shared house. This has yet to be determined.
The city of Huye is ideal to live in, as it is less tumultuous than Kigali (the capital) but offers a wide range of activities and a dynamic life environment. There, you will find a Chinese restaurant, ice cream shops, several excellent cafes and even a karaoke bar!
Organization of the internship
The internship takes place at Kabutare hospital in the town of Huye (Butare). It is a district hospital, which is therefore a mix of a health center (dispensary) and a university hospital. Several specialties are offered there, such as emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, maternity, obstetrics and gynecology, physiotherapy, post-op, etc.
You will work from Monday to Friday, except on holidays. Hours change from specialty to specialty, but you will usually start at around 8:30-9:00 AM and finish at around 1:00 PM.
The hospital is very close to downtown so you can go there for lunch. There are also two great cafes within a 10 minute walk of the hospital!
