Today, I am lounging poolside waiting for the meeting to start tomorrow. I am enjoying those last hours of relaxation because I won’t be able to get any rest during the meeting. But first thing first: my name is Philippe Lamarre and I am a second year medical student at Université Laval. My implication in IFMSA is being a LORE, position that I proudly hold for the second year in a row. I’ve already been to IFMSA-Québec congresses, but this Regional Meeting is my first time in an international IFMSA event. Needless to say, I am rather excited for it to start so I see what it’s like. The main objective I set for myself during the congress is to learn as much as possible about the exchanges. I want to be overwhelmed by knowledge, so that by the end of the week, I feel like I have a much deeper comprehension of them. My second goal is to learn from the other countries. This is an international meeting, I want to seize the opportunity to converse with people who experience things differently than I do and who see the world differently. I don’t care if it’s about the exchanges, their medical education, their future job, or their hobbies. I want to absorb all that seems challenging to me, so I don’t have a choice but to widen my mind. I do fear the congress might drain my energy with all the activities and new people, but I’m feeling pretty confident about it!
