A little tour of the SCORP sessions at the GA
Hey there,
During the second day of the GA in SCORP sessions (human rights and peace) , we had a presentation about advocacy in humans rights especially as the opportunity for youth to be part of the Major Group on youth and children during UN assemblies. The speaker also presented UN’s 2015 agenda. Students can play an important role in advocacy and their voices can be heard on major international platforms!
We then discussed ways to develop projects through the use of surveys, peer education, evaluations and feedback. A very interesting way to proceed when approaching schools is to create a booklet with all the different projects realized by the NMO so that the schools can chose from it the projects that interest them the most and respond to their needs.
After that there was a SCORP fair projects where students from all over the world presented projects organized in their countries. For example, there is a SCORP camp that will take place in Sweden this year, it is an advanced training camp in human rights advocacy in healthcare. Furthermore a student from Bangladesh presented a project called “ACTION’ which is about a summer camp in the Asia Pacific region to raise awareness about natural disasters and train medical students to become leaders in disaster management. Other projects included “Global Surgery” which promotes access to safe affordable surgery, as well as “PAL-SPAIN” which is an internship for medical students in a refugee camp in Palestine.
It was very interesting to see the variety of SCORP projects and how they change based on the local needs of the populations.
On the second day, we had a very long plenary that lasted multiple hours during which the candidates for next year’s official team presented themselves, Malta and Montenegro also presented their candidature as hosts for next year’s march meeting.
At night, we had an event called “National Food and Drink Party” which I have to mention because it has been a highlight social experience. Every country presented a kiosk with their traditional foods and drinks and they were dressed in cultural outfits. It was a very nice cultural experience as said one of my friend it was like making the tour of the world within a single room walking country to country.
Cheers (real one),
