First Impressions

The expectations for the Pre-RM meeting has been building up ever since I signed up as a delegate of IFMSA Quebec. This organization encompasses the idealistic goals that many students doctors have once we start Medicine. However, it was shocking for me to see that there was not a lot of participation from McGill medical students. Having this realization, I made it a goal to find out about the dynamics of the organization, and how it is perceived by students doctors from Canada and abroad.

As we fast forward through the month, I am sitting here in Trujillo after my first intense day of training and bonding with student doctors from many different countries. I had caught a glimpse of the different realities that surround medical education in different countries. Most importantly, I have been working on a theory about the seemingly strong student participation from countries other than the US and Canada.

Some of the questions I will be exploring in the upcoming days would include the value of participation in IFMSA for medical students and how that value changes given the different educational systems. Hopefully, before leaving Trujillo, I will be able to come up with possible explanations on this participation gap between Canada and other countries. Finally, my goal would be to add some new ideas to improving participation of Canadian student doctors in IFMSA.
